PHL: Not Up to Par!

Is it just me? Or is the Philadelphia International Airport  just not up to par? I recently took a little trip to Houston. It was fabulous!!! But I’m not here to discuss that. I want to address PHL International!

Now, it is certainly not the worst airport I’ve visited; but, it is definitely in need of some serious improvement. PHL officials, if you are out there, please listen. I have some recommendations.  Let me help.

First, I was looking to charge my iPhone before my 3 hour flight to Houston. I couldn’t find a free outlet anywhere! I was ducking and weaving between people and chairs!! And then finally, jackpot!! I found one! But…

Exhibit A

In this day and age, it’s imperative to airports to provide an ample amount of chargers for the plethora of devices that travelers carry for work and entertainment. (Particularly, because many airlines have eliminated entertainment.)  No one should have to fight  to charge their phone. And more importantly, outlets like these should not exist ANYWHERE! It’s just not safe.

Next, these nifty electronic exit doors are new! I must admit that they look pretty high tech and cool. However…

Exhibit B

What purpose do they serve? Seriously, they are EXIT doors. Why are they so complicated? They may look simple, but they are not. They have a tendency to freeze for obnoxious amounts of time based on the flow of the traffic. I know I’m not the only one who has experienced this. I’ve gotten stuck in front of these glass doors numerous times.

Next…

Yesssss!!!  PHL has stepped into the 21st century by providing wireless internet access around the airport. But…

Exhibit C

Have you ever attempted to connect??? It doesn’t work!!! You can’t access the internet. (At least, not from the 3 locations that I tried.) Now that is preposterous. If I can get wireless access on a $12/ticket bolt bus ride, you would think I could get the same at the airport, where fares have skyrocketed!

There are many other ways that PHL could be improved. And I could complain about them. But guess what folks!?! That’s not my style. So I’m going to tell you some things about the Philly airport that I absolutely love. Those things include …

Chickies & Pete’s: for a relaxing drink before a long plain ride, their famous clam chowder, and when I’m feeling greedy a Chicken Cheesesteak… mmmm.

Friendly Staff:  I have been very lucky at PHL and I always seem to run into the nicest most helpful airport employees. When I’m late, they do their best to help. When I have a question, they typically have a solid answer (with a smile) and so on.

And last but not least I LOVE the…

Flights!!! Lol. Even when I am delayed (which is all too often) PHL gets me OUT OF PHILLY, when I’m in need of a break. I am forever grateful for that.

As I mentioned, my most recent trip was to Houston. I went to go see the lady below, my bff since 3rd grade, LAUREN. We were celebrating her Graduation/ Birthday/ Future Mother’s Day. Houston is just splendid!

But I digress… back to the real topic at hand which is PHL! I want to hear from readers. What do you think about Philadelphia International Airport? Leave your comments here; and, please keep them clean ;-)

I love the city of Philadelphia! But I also love leaving the city of Philadelphia! Sometimes you have to get away to realize, “there’s no place like home!” On the top of 2010’s New Years Resolutions list: TRAVEL! So I packed my bags, hopped on a plane and was off to one of my favorite destinations, Sunny South Florida.

I always have an agenda when I set off on a trip. This trip’s agenda? Pro Bowl, Super Bowl, and avoiding the blizzard Philly was about to get slammed with! Great agenda, right? My goals? Have fun, re-connect with old friends, network with new faces, book some gigs, work out, and hit up some of the most exclusive events (oh! And get some work done too).

I can sum it up in word one, AMAZING! I accomplished ALL of my goals! I avoided the 72 inches of snow that hit Philly while I was gone (sorry about your luck friends). I booked 2 gigs (including a feature role in a music video with European singer Taio Cruz for his song “Break Your Heart” that features rapper Ludacris). I met really great new contacts and ran into a ton of familiar faces, including quite a few very special Philly friends (who shall remain nameless). Most importantly, I attended some fabulous events; The MAXIM party, a pool party hosted by the infamous Terrell Owens, the EA sports party, Cameo hosted by Ludacris, and so on … I was having so much fun I didn’t leave for 3 weeks!!!

My favorite event, for sure, was the EA Sports party. I went with my buddy Zo and his brother Kelenna of the Golden State Warriors (pictured) who introduced me to the lovely Tara Moore and her brother Tyler (also pictured) the daughter and son of Peter Moore, president of EA Sports.

Now, I’m going to be honest with you. After a few days, Pro Bowl and Super Bowl parties start to seem like reruns. Each place has the same people, same music, same scene…I guess it’s hard to keep a girl-on-the-go like me entertained, even at the Super Bowl. But the EA Sports party was different! Part exclusive soiree; part arcade, now this is cool! I can appreciate a classy event with a twist!

The party was outside at the Clevelander with lavish lighting, a great DJ, a warm breeze and did I mention NFL players challenging each other to video games? Plus there was some fabulous food and, JACKPOT, an open Bar!

One of the coolest parts of the night was the Madden Bowl, played by the NFL’s top athletes. I wish I could tell you who won, but I stopped paying attention. Sorry folks, I got d.i.s.t.r.a.c.t.e.d. … O.M.G. …  Its Him … HE’S HERE!!??!!

Basically, this trip to South Florida was poppin’! Looking forward to hearing more about my next trip? Stay tuned for more of AJ’s Adventures…  and if your interested in connecting with my buddies Zo, Kelenna, and Tara follow them on Twitter.
