Late for a birthday party! Have you shared this dilemma? Meter or lot? Cheap or safe? 30 minutes of circles, and a 4 block walk in the freezing cold only to be faced with a Cinderella reenactment later? When the meter strikes “expired,” do I race back, possibly losing a shoe? Do I accept that my carriage may have already turned into a “pumpkin,” sprouting another fat ticket from our evil stepmother, the PPA and enjoy the party?
What party? The 21st Birthday party of the Sporting Club at the Bellevue of course! Philadelphia Style threw quite a bash! The basketball court had been magically transformed into a dance club, (a la your junior prom, but way cooler because this one had a bar!) and the fitness room an ultra chic lounge. Unlike past 21st birthday parties I attended, I didn’t catch anyone throwing back shots, so I treated myself to sangria and some of El Vez’s exceptionally delicious guacamole. The live band, CTO Tribeca, rocked the house and even inspired some people to hit the dance floor. The gov himself, Eddie Rendell, turned out for the festivities. More than $10,000 was raised for our favorite Philly charity, Students Run Philly Style.
After the event, we had our own after party at Del Frisco’s. As the rest of the Philly In cast went home for their beauty sleep, I was accompanied by one of my partner’s in crime. After indulging in some King Crab gnocchi and wine, we bumped into a large group of New Yorkers in town for the night, and looking for somewhere to go. Poof! We turned into Philly nightlife “godmothers” and were off for adventures at G Lounge and Recess. More proof that sometimes when you plan on coming home early at night, you end up coming home early in the morning instead.
Oh, and how did I do in my own personal parking war with the P.P.A.? Another point to the evil stepmother, who I think is currently beating me 8-5. Payment for parking that night? $36, and no prince in sight…
