A Little Bit About North Bowl //

909 N. 2nd St.
Philadelphia, PA 19123
www.northbowlphilly.com

Open the doors to North Bowl and you might feel like you stepped into the 1950s. The decor is cheeky, but think authentic - not corny. The building is a renovated mechanics garage turned into a fabulous funhouse. North Bowl features a full bar and a solid bar menu (including their famous tater-tots). They also have a vending machine that sells novelty items and a old-school photo booth. If you're stuck waiting around for too long, the upstairs loft has arcade games, pool table, Foosball, and of course...another bar. Acoording to their website, "North Bowl is a place that is truly unique to Philadelphia. Its not just about bowling, it's about the atmosphere and the overall experience."

I hate bowling! It takes forever (people are constantly forgetting their turn), the food is “so-so”, the shoes are ugly and I’m bad at it… I mean, realllllly bad. Like, 10 gutter balls in a row bad! And I’m a girl who HATES to lose. I’m so competitive, that I will take a child down at Candyland. Now, with all that being said, I LOVE NORTH BOWL! The decor is on-point and the atmosphere makes me smile. I not a huge tater tot fan, but North Bowl’s are famous. So, I tried 3 different kinds: Original – solid; Buffalo – very good, but  just the original tots with a side of hot sauce, no big deal and finally, the Baker’s -OMG! I’m in tater-tot heaven! Think tater-tot nachos - these were DELISH! Next time I want to try the Garlic and Pizza and those Pretzel Bites too. As far as the actual bowling, I sucked…big time! But I managed to have fun due to some good beer and constant “dance-offs.” I particularly had fun in the overpriced photo booth (See gallery pix of me and Christian). Only complaint was the super ridiculous long wait for an alley (North Bowl is small, and popular so plan ahead). And I thought their drink specials were limited considering the huge bar and fun theme they had going on.

Upscale bowling is a popular trend, I can name at least 4 other allies in the Philadelphia/Jersey area, but none impress me as much as North Bowl. I may be a bowling convert. LOVE IT!

This was my first time at North Bowl, and I wasn’t much of a bowling guy, until I discovered how much fun it is after a couple alcoholic beverages! The food was very good for bowling alley fare, and it was complimented with good times. North Bowl,  is a great first date spot, because of the relaxed atmosphere, good food and drinks.  Or, a great spot to just go hang out on a Friday night to unwind after the work week and have some much deserved fun. North Bowl is a “must-do” if you are ever in the Northern Liberties neighborhood.

I was in Sunny South Florida living “the good life” during this part of the No Libs excursion so I can’t rank North Bowl, but my trip was most definitely 5 star!!! You can read about it here http://www.phillyin.com/amber/ajs-adventures-phillyin-south-florida-601  Instead Christian is going to help me…. Take it away Christian!

When I was asked to write up some “Crosby” input about our experiences at No Libs, I thought “That should be effortless”. Little did I realize, no matter where we visited, my review was always the same – “That place was awesome! We had a freaking blast.” The #1 reason I enjoyed North Bowl is the food – hands down! Their menu is like Napoleon Dynamite’s dream come true! North Bowl serves tater tots to die for! All flavors from buffalo to garlic flavor. What other bowling alley do you know that sells a tater tot volcano dripping down sour cream and cheese? Sounds gross – tastes awesome! Try it!

My #2 reason I enjoyed North Bowl is the service! Every bowling alley has bowling – which will always be fun. Big deal! North Bowl provides, the most consistent service for keeping fresh food at your station and new drinks on your table. I instantly became best friends with our North Bowl waitress (although, I’m good at that). She was very social and friendly, and made sure we were all taken care of on a consistent basis. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of Lucky Strikes, but North Bowl is definitely a strong contender. If you’re in Northern Liberties then North Bowl is a “must-go”. It’s been there before Northern Liberties was Northern Liberties. I might be hyping this place up a little bit.. but then again, I like to hype! From your guy- Crosby

This place rocks! Bowling, Beer and Tater-tots. What more could you ask for? How about a cool environment, great food, 2 bars, pool tables, air hockey, Foosball. Great place for a first date, or to hang out with friends. Word of caution, this place is no secret and can get busy at times. Especially when they have leagues going on which can lead to wait times of up to an hour or two. It’s best to call ahead to see how long the wait is. The tater-tots are a must (and come in different flavors), as are the mini burgers, basically everything on the menu such as the wings, chicken skewers, etc. are all good.
