Honey’s Sit-'N-Eat is the “it” place for breakfast food in Northern Liberties, so naturally it was our first stop. The restaurant serves its own brand of fusion: Jewish and Southern comfort food. This cozy corner eatery has a rustic feel generated by the pine floors, wood beams and mismatched, but quaint décor. The wait can be long on the weekends. One trend is to go early to beat the crowd, we recommend oversleeping (not quite as long as Chris did…) and arriving late when the crowd has left, but you can still order breakfast. Even with the wait, it’s generally worth it for some good eats and sweets.

There are 2 ingredients that I’m obsessed with right now. If it’s in an item on a menu, there’s a 90% chance I’m ordering it. One is wasabi, the other, Nutella. Honey’s offers Nutella French toast, so that was my contribution to our breakfast selection. I especially liked the blueberries and strawberries packed in the middle. I personally would have liked more Nutella, but AJ disagreed, so maybe it was just my sweet tooth talking. (I’ve recently be spoiled by the French toast at Sabrina’s so I’m suddenly a tough critic). My favorite dish of the morning was the Desayuno. It had a nice blend of spices and I really liked the veggie sausage that I thought I would hate. The omelet was also delectable, particularly because of the avocado (another ingredient creeping up my list) and caramelized onions. All in all, I enjoyed the food, and bottomless cups of coffee but I wasn’t stunned by any one dish. I did really like atmosphere and would likely go back again. (Hopefully, to try the fried banana split).

IN Ranking: I give it solid 4 OF 5.

Let me start by saying Honey’s is my favorite breakfast spot, if you can stomach the wait.  If patience is one of your virtues, then Honey’s offers, by far, the best breakfast in the city.  Rare to most diners or breakfast spots, Honey’s serves many of their platters using healthy ingredients such as turkey sausage, egg whites, whole-wheat toast, etc.  They also keep you on your toes, and break the norm of your typical brunch spot with continually new and interesting specials. Plus, it’s an excellent eatery to nurse your hangover. Food is superb, but service is hit or miss. One day the waitress is extremely friendly and service is prompt, another day it may take half an hour to get a coffee and she may bitterly ask you to “move your luggage out of walkway”. Which brings me to my next point; if you are claustrophobic, Honey’s is not the place for you.  Imagine eating breakfast at the Running of the Bulls.  Honey’s would get 4.5 out of 5, but loses a point for square footage and sporadic service. Overall, if you want a delectable home cooked meal, then I suggest you check out Honey’s. Any item you order will surely please any palette.

Hey! First things first, the Desayuno rocked my world. This delicious dish with fried eggs piled on top of home fries and veggie sausage was simply delicious. The only thing keeping me from making it a regular in my diet is the calorie count. I highly recommend that you try it! I was excited for the mushroom, caramelized onion, tomato, jalapeño, garlic, and fresh avocado omelet because I’m the omelet queen, I just love them! It was good, not great, just good. Period. The Nutella French Toast was delightful! I’m not even a French toast fan, but this was done just right. The ratio of French toast: strawberries: blueberries: Nutella was perfect. Now factor in that Honey’s is BYOB, reasonably priced, has free street parking AND some eye candy (The Bus Boy, Jim) …and, you have yourself one happening brunch spot!

IN Ranking: 4.5 of 5.

I overslept…but I have been to Honey’s more times than I can count. This combination of southern-Jewish food is unique and delicious and the portions are very generous. The wait can be well over an hour on the weekends and it is worth it. The breakfast burrito is amazing, the pancakes are enormous and delicious, the omelets are great, the french toast is unique and delicious, the breakfast quesadilla is very good as well. They make the orange juice using real oranges with a machine you can see behind the breakfast bar. The staff is always friendly and they are good about keeping your water and coffee filled at all times, even though it is a bit cozy inside making it a tough place for the waitstaff to navigate when crowded. In the summer they put tables outside so they can accommodate more people. Overall, I think Honey’s is the best place to grab breakfast in Philly.
